Wendy Wischer works in a wide range of media, from sculptural objects to installations, video, projection, light, sound, and community-based and public works. Her lived experience in both rural and urban settings informs much of her work, as Wischer explores elements of the natural and man-made worlds with a focus on environmental issues. By utilizing inorganic materials like wire and mirrored mylar to create organic forms—a tree in this case—she invites viewers to reflect upon their relationships with their surroundings. She also prompts us to think about the future, including hope, which, here, can be understood through Wischer’s careful attention to the interplay of light, shadow, and reflection.
Lowe Creative Projects invites site-specific installations by emerging and mid-career artists to foster creativity and experimentation. One of the benefits of activating this space is that the art can be seen by all passersby, day, and night. The public can also view the progression of each installation, inviting them into a process that is more typically hidden. Wendy Wischer—Reflecting Hope was curated by Lance Fung and Lowe Curator, Caitlin Swindell.
