The more than forty important paintings featured in this show evoke the timeless beauty of late 19th- and early 20th-century American Art and offers today’s audiences a bucolic retreat from the stresses of modern life through luminous paintings that invite quiet contemplation and the immersive pleasures of rural beauty. This collection highlights a remarkable period of transition in the course of American art. During this pivotal time of innovation and discovery, a group of artists, including such masters as Robert Henri, George Inness, John Sloan, and J. Alden Weir, embraced newly acquired creative freedoms, while abandoning the rigidity of traditional academic hierarchies.
